Black Butte is a beautiful blend of superwash Merino, Yak, and Silk. We all love Merino – it is a soft, forgiving wool that is a joy to work with. Add in silk – and you get amazing sheen and drape. But the secret sauce is the Yak. Oooooh yak – be still my heart. Yak is a light, fluffy, insulating fiber that comes from the undercoat of the humble yak. The natural fiber is a light grey/brown which turns every color into an elegant version of itself. Combine all three fibers and you have a warm, breathable, wicking fabric with gorgeous drape and sheen. But when you will truly fall in love is after you block or wash the item. The yak blooms with washing and your piece will come into its own.

So soft to the touch, such deep, great colors!
So so happy I was able to order this yarn directly! The store where I initially bought it closed and I was panicked. The yarn is gorgeous, delivery smooth, knitting with a solid color merino as DK. Lovely to work with, beautiful result. Thank you Alexandra AOY!
Black Butte Fingering Weight Yarn
I am using this yarn for another Shift cowl. I have two others made from Black Butte and still get compliments on both.
As a knitter, there are yarns that you love to knit. Black Butte is one of my all time favorites. I always keep at least one skein in my stash for "those" moments...those moments when I want to start a new project. I may not know what I want to knit, but I reach for this yarn.
The pattern is WYS for Wool, Silk, and Yak.
